Our way of life is destroying our way of life. My photographic practice is centred on humankind’s relationship with the land and the conflicting demands we as a species place on it. The images presented here are from a project called The Last Harvest, which uses the final growing season of a small farm to explore how we use our land, the changing the nature of a place, the tension between the urban and rural and impact this has on families which have a strong connection to the land.
“The farm is part of me, and I am part of the farm.
I never thought I would leave it”
Brook Farm, a small family-run farm, is adjacent to the largest market town in Cambridgeshire. The land has been worked by three generations of the same family since 1947. As tenant farmers, the family had no control when the land was sold by the landowner to a house building firm that has plans to build 2,500 medium density homes on the land. The family has one last harvest to produce before they must leave the farm.
