Instagram takeover 31 March 2025

LANDINGS is back for 2025, and over the next few weeks we are taking over the @falmouthphotographyonline Instagram account. Landings is a collective of research clusters: Habitats, Practices of Care, Centres and Networks and Im/material Worlds; each of which is a collaboration of artists who share a cohesive methodology of visually communicating the world in which we live.

The artists of ‘Habitats’ find narratives through materiality and indexicality to present their ideas; using found materials and blending the natural and human-made to create work that expands beyond the representational.

Today we introduce the work of artists Linda Jarrett, Bhaskar Sitholey and Gayle Hallowell.

Linda Jarrett

Linda Jarrett’s ‘Cementing Destruction’ explores concrete as a force of destruction while challenging traditional photographic representation. Her lumen prints do not depict materials but are shaped by them, emphasising structure, process and materiality. The materials are active participants rather than subjects, aligning with the Concrete Photography movement, which values the self-referential nature of the image. @lindajarrettphotography

Bhaskar Sitholey

Bhaskar Sitholey’s ‘Dark Narratives’ explores how fear, often triggered by the unknown, is a survival mechanism. In our constantly lit environments, darkness can evoke intense fear and anxiety, conjuring shapes and narratives that amplify our fears. He explores this primal fear through interviews with 12 individuals, each sharing their unique encounters with darkness, revealing its impact on the human psyche. @bhaskarsitholey

Gayle Hallowell

Gayle Hallowell explores the deep connection between home, mental well-being, and the restorative power of blue and green spaces. With 1 in 4 individuals in the UK affected by mental health disorders, research highlights the therapeutic benefits of engaging with nature. Rooted in personal memories of gardening with her father. Her work reflects a sanctuary where water, plants, and vegetables provide solace and a healing space. @ghallowell1978
